San Diego shelter opens low-cost spay/neuter facility on World Spay Day

In celebration of World Spay Day today, San Diego Humane Society and SPCA will open a low-cost spay-neuter clinic in Oceanside. To kick things off, the group will offer 100 free spay/neuter surgeries to pet owners who meet eligibility requirements based on financial need.
Typical fees for spay/neuter at the Oceanside facility as well as at the group’s other clinic in San Diego range from $30-$75, depending on the animal’s type and sex. Both locations will also offer vaccinations.
“Lack of affordable, needs-based spay/neuter surgeries in the communities that need them most is at the core of our national pet overpopulation problem,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. “That’s why we’ve made it a priority to offer accessible and affordable spay and neuter options, not just on World Spay Day, but throughout the year.”
Weitzman continued, “By providing accessible spay/neuter options, we will significantly reduce the number of animals coming into shelters. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to have access to these resources. By working together, we’re hoping we’ll be able to greatly decrease the number of unwanted animals in our community.”

I have been at the San Diego Humane Society since September 30, 2012. This means the staff here has had plenty of time to get to know me. Everyone tells me I am purrfect because I am a meek little sweetheart and will show you so much love!
The three words that best describe me are bashful, docile and sweet. If I could do just one thing all day, I would be pet and fed treats from your hand, snuggling up for cuddle time and leisurely people-watching out the window. I would rather be pet than play with toys, but I do like feathers.
A few other things you should know about me are that I may hide or shy away at first, but I warm up very quickly and am full of affection. I truly enjoy attention and would love to be your spoiled kitty!
I would prefer a home without young children, please, since I can be a bit shy.
Other things you should know about me: My adoption fee includes my spay/neuter, current vaccinations, permanent microchip identification, a gift from Hill’s Science Diet, and a certificate for a free veterinary exam!
