Buttercup was originally rescued by Maria Marina Machado and Melissa Beamish. They found her in terrible condition on the Greek island of Kefalonia, then with other volunteers lovingly cured and cared for her at DORIS - ARK Animal Rescue Kefalonia till her re-homing on Friday with her new mommy Alinda van Geffen. Synharitiria - congratulations - beautiful Buttercup!!! Hronia polla - wishing you a long, healthy, happy life. Be a kalo koritzi - a good girl - for your lovely mama and make Kefalonia proud!

After only seven months of planning, re-planning, and a whole new crop of gray hair, Spicy Stories Save Lives is delighted to announce that two of our sponsored angels, the little Misses Peanut and Buttercup, traveled from the Animal Rescue Kefalonia (ARK) shelter in Greece to land safely in the loving arms of their new mommy Alinda in the Netherlands last week.

Spicy is happy to have covered the costs of their travel and vetting etc., and to have spent the time required to make the arrangements.

However these girls would not even be alive today without the care of ARK founders Maria Marina Machado and Dionisis Kappatos, as well as all the rest of its hardworking volunteers such as Melissa Beamish and Joyce Broekman.

Nor could we have gotten them launched off to their new lives without the kind “on-the-ground” assistance of Lynda Thompson, Anneloes Wagenaar Hummelinck, Dr. Lefteris Psarros, and Peter Lee.

Also we thank Transavia Airlines, who let us finally use our ticket that got nullified by an act of cyber fraud way back in 2013 (long story to be told later).

And of course a thousand thanks to Hubsy, a.k.a. The Saint, for his unflagging financial and moral support.

But no one deserves more gratitude than adopter Alinda. She now finds herself surrounded by Kefalonians, including her previous adoptees Granger and Noble, who also happen to be former Spicy fosters/sponsorees (originally named Jorja and Solomon).

YAD cover 315Spicy Stories Save Lives proudly sponsors needy animals in the U.S. and around the world.

For example we help Kefalonia Animal Trust (KATs) provide free spay/neuter for hundreds of animals per year, which is one of the best ways to prevent the abandonment and misery of puppies like Noah and Kyla. Please give to KATs via PayPal or bank transfer. Spay/neuter and education are the animals’ best hope for a better future.

Also please consider Animal Rescue Kefalonia (ARK), another group on the Greek island of Kefalonia who run a shelter  and work miracles with terribly few resources.

Spicy Stories Save Lives and the author of this article have no affiliation with the rescue groups mentioned above, other than as a friend, volunteer, and donor.
