Whoa, am I a hot date or what?

Knowing I‘ve always adored the December Nights festival in San Diego’s Balboa Park, Hubsy insists we escape the Hirsute Herd (our numerous rescued pooches) and go.

Due to having no time to gussy up and to it being one of the coldest nights on record for the month, I slap on a dab of lipstick, several layers of my less-stained sweaters topped by one of my less-torn windbreakers, and the regular old baggy pants.  (Don’t tell anybody but the pants are really pajamas. And no I will not provide a photo.)

Make Hubsy dance with me to Cajun zydeco music the minute we arrive. Boy does he ever groove on zydeco! (Not.)

Pet every dog I see. (Well he was doing the same thing.)

Make like a tourist and take a zillion pics. (Blurry but so colorful.)

Strike up numerous conversations with complete strangers about their funny lit-up Santa hats or their aforementioned dogs. (Hey, it was a party atmosphere and only the third time I’ve been out of the house for fun in four months.)

Konk out in the car and snore all the way home. (Best nap in weeks.)

Result: Hubsy can hardly wait to ask me out again.

Spicy Stories Save Lives proudly sponsors needy animals in the U.S. and around the world.

For example we help Kefalonia Animal Trust (KATs) provide free spay/neuter for hundreds of animals per year, which is one of the best ways to prevent the abandonment and misery of puppies like Noah and Kyla. Please give to KATs via PayPal or bank transfer. Spay/neuter and education are the animals’ best hope for a better future.

Also please consider Animal Rescue Kefalonia (ARK), another group on the island who run a shelter  and work miracles with terribly few resources.
