Lisa Hamilton and her team of staff and volunteers welcomed Marisol and Lisa Jr. with TLC and topnotch vet care.

There are countless reasons to love Last Chance at Life All Breed Rescue & Adoptions (LCAL), an animal rescue group that has focused on challenging medical and behavioral cases since its founding in the early 2000s.

Here at RescueDiva.com we are especially appreciative of LCAL—so much so that we are donating 100% of profits from our new short fiction story “Small Change” to them and to one other great group, Center for Animal Protection and Education.

To kick off our fundraiser on the right paw we have sent $100 to each group.

Why so fond of LCAL?

A few years ago, without blinking an eye, they agreed to take in terrier mixes Marisol and Lisa, whom Rescue Diva spotted at a Los Angeles county shelter and absolutely had to help. The two were in grave danger of euthanasia due to being terrified, completely un-socialized survivors of a hoarding situation.

Rescue Diva picked them up at the shelter, transported them south to San Diego county, made a small donation, then LCAL did all the rest.

Difficult is our calling’

Lisa Jr. gets lots of TLC from foster mom Colleen Kay and family while she awaits a forever home. Click pic for more about her.

When Diva first delivered the little pair to LCAL founder and president Lisa Hamilton, we apologized profusely to her. “I’m so sorry—we’re giving you a couple of difficult cases. The poor things are really scared. They won’t be easy to re-home.”

Hamilton gave us one of her sweet smiles and replied, “Don’t worry. We don’t do ‘easy.’ Difficult is our calling.”

Hamilton and her crew of staff members and volunteers got to work right away to provide Marisol and Lisa Jr. (who we named after guess who) with gentle, topnotch veterinary care at Mission Animal and Bird Hospital, where Hamilton serves as administrator. Then they settled the girls into their temporary lodging at Bark Avenue Pet Resort, which is part of the hospital facility. Soon Hamilton found them a wonderful foster home with Colleen Kay.

Kay and her family gave them nurturing TLC to help restore the two traumatized dogs’ trust in humans. Eventually Marisol was adopted. Lisa, a little more shy, still awaits a forever family.

‘All animals matter’

Every day #TeamLCAL (as they’re known on Twitter) create many more reasons for us to love them. Just take a look at their “Adopted!” page.

And here’s yet another reason to support LCAL—the group’s deeply moving mission statement… “We help the animals that are overlooked—the older, the broken, the not-so-popular—we fix them medically, we nurture for behaviors, and we seek out the most special forever homes for them. There are MANY rescues who help the cute puppies—who doesn’t love a cute puppy? But we believe that all animals matter, and we pick up the ones left behind after the cute puppies have all left the shelter. That is why we truly are their LAST CHANCE AT LIFE.”
