Here at Rescue Diva we’ve always been big fans of the Animal Film Festival (AFF). Now we’re happy to report that by donating $500, we’ve bumped up our status beyond fandom to become an official “Festival Friend” sponsor of the AFF scheduled for February 2017.

Produced by the Center for Animal Protection and Education (CAPE), the festival is a one-day event held every winter in northern California’s scenic Gold Country to “entertain and enlighten audiences with independent films, comedies, documentaries, and work by emerging artists,” as described on the AFF website.

Renewed vigor

The day completely fulfills and exceeds that promise. Rescue Diva has attended two of the three years’ festivals so far, and each time we’ve come away with a vastly expanded understanding of the issues that animals face, and renewed vigor for the work of helping them.

We confess that two of our dearest friends, CAPE’s Shelley Frost and JP Novic founded and organize the event, so that’s another reason why we love attending. But that dynamic duo and their excellent staff of volunteers make everyone feel welcome and happy to be there.

Here’s to the 2018 Animal Film Festival!

Filmmaker Duncan Skiles grabs some closeup footage while visiting nearby sanctuary Animal Place. His film ‘Penelope: A Rescue Story’ tells the tale of a chicken saved from an Orthodox Jewish sacrifice ritual.

Rescue Diva proudly sponsors needy animals in the U.S. and around the world.

For example we help Kefalonia Animal Trust (KATs) provide free spay/neuter for hundreds of animals per year, which is one of the best ways to prevent the abandonment and misery of puppies like Noah and Kyla.

We also do in-the-trenches rescues of angels like Robin, Chance, and Tiger, with help from San Diego Animal Support Foundation, and of Marisol and Lisa, with help from Last Chance at Life.
